What is meditation?

        MEDITATION
Meditation is a mental process in which we establish an object in the field of our mind. The object established in our mind becomes the core of attraction. Maximum power of our mind is attracted towards it. As a result, our mind gets concentrated in the core or the object that we have established in the field our mind. We get ourselves lost in some pre-decided ideology or the point of target. This is what we say is meditation.

The way one meditates, so he/she becomes. If you keep some mud in the frame of any object and apply pressure on the mud, then the mud acquires the same form as that of the object. There is a popular example of an insect which takes away the grasshopper and starts making continuous buzzing sound around it. The grasshopper listens to the buzzing sound of the insect, sees its figure and observes its activities with full concentration. Finally, the body and mind of the grasshopper also starts undergoing transformation similar to that of the insect and not only the mind, its blood, flesh, skin and nerves, everything is transformed. At last, after some time the grasshopper is completely transformed in to a similar insect. Just like this, by the power of meditation one’s body and mind gets completely transformed. Such is the power of meditation. By normal meditation, from the physical corner of view, transformation cannot be seen as it involves a complex routinized life with rigorous practice. But one can achieve the mental transformation or the reincarnation of the mental background by the practice of simple meditation.

But, before proceeding to do meditation, one should understand how to undergo the process meditation or how is it done. Unless something is done in its proper way, how can we expect the proper result out of it? So let’s go in to its deeper details.

The process of meditation involves five steps.
The 1st step is called as Stithi.
The 2nd step is called as Sanstithi.
The 3rd step is called as Bigatee.
The 4th step is called as Pragatee.
The 5th step is called as Samsmiti.

Now let us know and understand what these five steps are, so that we can do meditation in a successful way and achieve our goal.

Stithi, the first step is related to the condition, time, place, position, posture and direction in which one does the meditation. One should choose the best and perfect options whichever is suitable for him or her.

Sanstithi, the second step is related to the object of meditation. The object (God or Goddess) upon which we are going to concentrate our mind. There should be clarity of the object in minute details in our mind, so that the time we start meditating, a clear image of the object comes into our mind at once which can be observed minutely.

Bigatee, the third step is related to the characteristic features or the natures that the object bears. The importance of the object, the power and the capacity of the object all these things are also predetermined by us according to our choice as those features are also slowly acquired by us as we meditate on that object regularly.

Pragatee, the fourth step is involved with the relationship between ourselves and the predetermined object. Relations like father, mother, wife, husband, son, daughter, friend, enemy and so on. There are numerous relationships from which we have to choose one create a bond between ourselves and the object.

Samsmiti, the fifth step is related to the condition in which the meditator and the object or the worshiper and the worshiped get unified as one. No difference is seen in between the two. At this time the meditator finds himself or herself to have transformed into the same object.
This is how we do meditation. Unless these five steps are undergone properly, meditation cannot be perfect or successful. So try these steps, do the meditation and then if you get any advantage out of it, I will feel my mission to be on its way to success.
